Visible Body produces educational software that uses 3D visuals, micro-lessons, and game-like interactivity to make studying anatomy and biology faster, easier, and more engaging.
Our in-house team is made up of:
Biomedical visualization experts who hold advanced degrees in the art and science of communicating complex human biology.
Educational publishing executives and teachers with decades of experience in instructional design.
Programmers and software architecture gurus who have written over a million lines of code to efficiently and seamlessly deliver our content across multiple platforms.
Customer service and sales professionals who reach across the globe and listen to what the healthcare community needs.
Visible Body was launched in 2007 by brothers Andrew and Matthew Bowditch. Over the next 18 years, Visible Body grew and thrived, providing award-winning 3D life science learning software to over 1,000 institutions and millions of students, instructors, and healthcare professionals. In 2025, Visible Body furthered its mission to make science education interactive and more accessible by joining the Cengage Group, a global education technology company that serves even more learners and educators.
Visible Body software is used by millions of learners and educators around the world. Instructors and students who use Visible Body report higher student engagement, better retention, and improved grades. We are incredibly proud of the community our user base has created in the education world. Check out our Customer Stories page to learn more.
At Visible Body, exemplary customer support is a promise. We partner with instructors and academic institutions to provide personalized, ongoing service. We train educators and continually adapt our software to meet the needs of todays’ learners.
Accuracy is critical in creating and sharing our content with the world. After all, meaningful learning can happen only with credible and comprehensive resources.
Once our in-house team has created new content, it is reviewed by an outside team of professors and professionals who have particular expertise that matches what is being reviewed. Our team discusses critiques and recommendations with the outside team, then refines the content as needed. Before it’s released for the public, finalized content is further reviewed by a test group of expert users.
Visible Body’s biomedical visualization and pedagogy development teams work closely with science educators and healthcare practitioners to develop content that is accurate and scalable across multiple levels of learning.
Many of these professors and healthcare practitioners send us suggestions for improvements, corrections, or new ideas. We greatly appreciate all those who contribute their time and expertise. This list includes a small snapshot of recent reviewers.
Here at Visible Body, virtual anatomy and physiology is created by real human beings. We do not outsource our core work. Instead, you’ll find us all working, creating, and exchanging ideas side by side in a creative, dynamic environment.
While our software is used across the globe and we have employees in several states, our team is based in Boston, a city known for its world-class universities, hospitals, and technology companies. We are always looking for additional smart, skilled and passionate people to join us on our journey along the cutting edge.
