Visible Body Releases 3D, Interactive Biochemistry Models

Visible Body has released new 3D biochemistry models—interactive content designed to enhance life sciences learning. Although Visible Body has made a name for itself creating a comprehensive library of 3D anatomy and physiology, pathology, and biology models, its newly released models represent its first foray into biochemistry content.

As many biology students and instructors have pointed out, it can be difficult to visualize something so miniscule, and 2D illustrations of atoms only go so far. To help students understand the basics of biochemistry, these four new animated models include:  

  • Sodium atom 
  • Chlorine atom 
  • Ionic bonding 
  • Covalent bonding  

“Students have shown that by being able to manipulate models like these in three dimensions, they can better visualize and understand key concepts, allowing them to succeed both in and out of class,” said Peter Whitmer, director of product management at Visible Body.

“Our new biochemistry models now allow instructors to better teach the chemical basis for the anatomy and biology in their classroom. The new models even work with our AR engine, and they will soon be available in our new immersive assignment experience.” 

VB Suite contains thousands of 3D models and views that cover everything from the atomic and microscopic all the way up to large-scale processes, like evolution.

The new biochemistry models include fully interactive 3D simulations. For example, users can zoom in and out; pause, play, and scrub through the animation; and click on a structure to view its name and read a definition. These models are the ultimate visual aid. As with any Visible Body model, users can add annotations using the Draw tool and the Notepad, save a custom View and add it to a Tour, and make moving Flashcards.
