4 Reasons to Use Visible Body in Your Sports Medicine Classroom

Typically offered as part of a high school curriculum, sports medicine classes offer an on-ramp to science through the world of sports. These courses can be a launching point for a career as a physician, physical therapist, and athletic trainer. However, to set students up for success, teachers need to keep their students engaged, even during “boring” vocabulary lessons.

That’s where Visible Body comes in. Through Visible Body’s captivating 3D models, classroom tools, and a whole host of helpful features, students can master the anatomy and physiology of athletic training and injury.

Let's look at four reasons why Visible Body is a great fit for sports medicine programs!

Understand the Musculoskeletal System

Visible Body Suite contains complete male and female gross anatomy models, including over 6,000 individual structures.

You can start with the absolute basics, like the structure of skeletal muscle, and work your way up to understanding how multiple muscles work together to move and stabilize the body. Using the Dissect tool, you can dissect away structures to view layers of muscle and gain a better understanding of spatial relationships.

With VB Suite, there’s a wealth of information at your fingertips. When you click on a structure, the info box pops up. Here, you can read a definition (or use the Listen button to hear it read aloud), learn about related pathologies, tag the structure, and fade or hide it.

When viewing a muscle, click on the Muscle Details button in the info box to instantly see the muscle's attachment and insertion points, blood supply, and innervation.

Muscles in Motion

With interactive muscle action animations, you and your students can view the agonists and synergists at play. You can pause, play, and scrub through the animation, and you can select structures to learn more about them.

With muscle action animations and other models, users can add 3D drawings, arrows, and other annotations and jot down other notes in Notepad.

The Beating Heart of Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is more than just muscles, and Visible Body’s circulatory and nervous system content helps students visualize the anatomy and physiology behind cardiovascular health, spinal cord injuries, concussions, and more.

VB Suite contains a ton of content, but our team has made it easy to find exactly what you need—you can find 3D views, animations, 2D content, and more through the Search function. Within a gross anatomy view, you can use Anatomy Search to locate or add any structure in the body, and you can add or remove whole systems using the Systems Tray.

Nail Vocabulary

Let’s talk about two great ways to teach vocabulary using Visible Body: assignments and Flashcards.

VB Suite contains a ton of content, and Courseware allows instructors to use that content for assignments, quizzes, and more. Assignments in Courseware consist of bite-sized activities and quizzes that walk students through life sciences content with interactive models and animations, keeping students focused on the task at hand.

Visible Body provides tons of premade assignments that cover all body systems. Regarding vocabulary, you can find premade assignments on:

  • Anatomical terminology
  • Muscle naming
  • Bone types and tissues
  • Bony landmarks

Assignments are easily edited and customized to your course, and Courseware’s assignment builder allows you to create your own assignments from scratch!

Now, let's talk Flashcards! Like with assignments, you can pull from a library of premade Flashcards and share them with your students. Teachers and students can also create their own Flashcards with a couple of clicks.

Users can open virtual Flashcard Decks on desktop or mobile, marking their answers as correct or incorrect as they work through the Deck.

Here's what makes Visible Body's Flashcards unique: click “Explore in 3D” to be instantly brought to the 3D model. When you’re done exploring, click “Return to Flashcard” to continue memorizing!
