June 18, 2018 — Visible Body today announced that its 3D musculoskeletal reference app, Muscle Premium for iPhone/iPad and Android devices, received a gold medal and top honors from the Spring 2018 Digital Health Awards.
Muscle Premium is a best-selling app on Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store. It is used by physical therapists, orthopedic surgeons, and other healthcare professionals for both patient education and personal reference. "We are so pleased to receive this recognition for Muscle Premium, which has recently been significantly updated and expanded with brief presentations on common conditions. Healthcare professionals use them to help patients visualize and understand problems such as torn meniscus, plantar fasciitis, and sciatica," said Lori Levans, Editorial Director at Visible Body.
Muscle Premium is loaded with visual and interactive models that muscle and bone specialists can access quickly from a phone or tablet :
Hundreds of 3D models and encyclopedic reference information on ligaments, muscle attachments, innervations, blood supply, and actions.
Over 60 interactive muscle actions that show adduction, pronation, flexion, and more.
3D models and tours that explain common conditions including rotator cuff tears, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis of the knee and hip, and lumbar spinal stenosis.
21 videos by clinicians that review normal anatomy, biomechanics, and common conditions.
The 21 new videos are offered as an in-app purchase to consumers on the Apple App Store and the Google Play store; they are included in the annual subscription for site license customers.
Muscle Premium is a comprehensive reference of musculoskeletal structures and function, plus common conditions.
"We spoke to a large number of physical therapists and orthopedic specialists about the amount of time they have with patients in a session, and how much of that session is spent on education," Levans continued. "Because that time is limited and precious, these professionals wanted something accurate and highly visual that makes an immediate impact on patient understanding." The Visible Body team spent over a year interviewing and collaborating with experts to create this new database of patient education video presentations included in Muscle Premium.
The Digital Health Awards consider usability and content when evaluating digital resources. A panel of 32 experts in digital health media served as judges to select the winners from over 400 entries. Entries were evaluated for content and for design, creativity, and user experience. Award curves were established for each entry classification; only about 10% of the awards presented were top Gold awards. Muscle Premium won the Gold in the category of Mobile Application Tool/Resource. Other gold medal winners include American Heart Association, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and Penn Medicine.
